April 2002 Happenings

The BH&PS will set up this year at the family fair, May 11th, 10:00 - 2:00 pm on the Town Common in Harrisville.

Betty expressed her expectations for the future of the BH&PS.

"As your newly elected president, I would like to write a brief statement outlining some of my goals for the BH&PS for next few years. Now that the school’s renovations are almost complete, I would like to focus the Society’s attention to other areas. They include:

Schedule and plan an open house for the school this fall

Expand the society’s collection

Ensure that our collection is preserved properly

Finish gathering and verifying Burrillville cemetery information

Identify cemeteries that are in need of work and schedule cleanups

Work on genealogies of Burrillville surnames

Have fundraising activities scheduled at various times throughout the year so that we will have money to work on projects.

Work on interpreting historical areas in the town with plaques, signs, etc.

If you have other areas of concern, please let me know. My goal is to lead the society so that it is actively working on historical or preservation projects throughout the year. If we all work together, we can accomplish great things."

The summer potluck supper will be held on June 25th at 6:00 pm. There will be no July meeting.

Refreshments and a video followed. The video was taken by Betty and Carlo Mencucci of the Burrillville Candlelight Vigil at the Burrillville Town Common in Harrisville on September 15, 2001. The vigil was in rememberance of those lost on September 11th at the Twin Tower in New York, the Pentagon in Washington, DC and the field in Pennsyslvania.
