September 2002 Happenings

The Burrillville Historical & Preservation Society would like to collect your stories of the 1938 Hurricane.  Sixty-four years ago on Wednesday, September 21st, the hurricane swept through Burrillville.  It demolished St. Patrick’s Church in Harrisville and tore the steeple off the Methodist Church in Glendale.  Trees were ripped up by the roots and strewn everywhere.

Where were you and what were you doing?  What did you see and how did it effect you?  Were you at school, at work or just trying to get home?  Write your memories of the 1938 hurricane and bring them to our meeting on September 24th.  If you did not live through the hurricane, ask your parents, grandparents, friends or relatives. If you do not want to write the story yourself, call Betty Mencucci at 568-8449 to have it recorded. If you have any pictures of the aftermath of the hurricane taken in Burrillville, please bring them in.

The stories will be read at our September meeting and will be added to our historical collection.
